Peter Penfold has over 25 years of study and experience in construction and facilities management.  Before starting his career, he studied Solar Engineering at Lansing Community College (Michigan).  While attending LCC, Peter completed internships with Paolo Solari at Arcosanti and Briner Scott Architects.  The latter led him to his Architecture studies at the University of Wisconsin - Milwaukee.

For the past 15 years, Peter has filled the roles of Site Superintendent, Project Manager and Senior Project Manager for various design/build construction firms specializing in luxury residences, multi-family projects, condominiums, recreation facilities, and restaurants.  He has been involved in all aspects of the construction process for projects with budgets of up to $40 million, with responsibilities including client relationships, overseeing development of schematic drawings through construction drawings, budget control, subcontractor negotiation, bidding, budget control, quality control, subcontract management, scheduling and site supervision.  Peter has helped firms develop and implement web-based construction management systems,  cost tracking, checks and balances, and Owner reports that have helped developers and general contractors monitor their people and projects from a macro level.

Previously, Peter was director of facilities/construction for a multi-state restaurant corporation and a health club, where he managed all aspects of facility upkeep and expansion with budgets of $5 million per year.  In these positions, he was responsible for the full range of facility related projects, ranging from day-to-day routine operations to budgeting, scheduling, and oversight/management of multiple $2M+ multi-year construction and remodeling projects in several states.  Routine operations also included management of operations staff, procurement of all supplies, vendor management, routine repairs, and preventative maintenance.

In these diverse positions, Peter has developed strengths in team leadership, contract management, budget control, quality control, scheduling, and conflict resolution.

Having worked on both sides of the building business – for developers and contractors as well as for Owners – he understands the needs and mindsets of the various participants in the design/build process.  This unique perspective allows Peter to be especially effective in helping owners navigate the increasingly complex design/build process.  Early in the project, he helps interpret design & construction drawings, develops experience-based preliminary budgets, reviews final construction documents, and solicits general & subcontractor estimates. He then oversees the bidding process, manages the budget, mediates conflicts, and acts as the on-site representative for the owner throughout the design & construction process .  Peter’s hands-on style ensures close attention to every project detail.  Although Peter handles the day-to-day details of the project so that Owners do not have to, he also works closely with the Owners, helping them be as active as they wish to be in the decision-making process throughout the design/build process.

Peter’s broad experience has given him practical insight into not only how buildings are constructed, but also how they are operated.  A natural extension of his design/build project management is to manage a vacation home for remote owners once it is complete. Peter manages all aspects of the property, so that the owners can just show up and enjoy their home. He monitors the property and conducts regular in-person checks to ensure all is well, and oversees maintenance including cleaning, landscaping, and repairs, as well as recreational vehicles, snow removal, utilities; even special events.

Outside of work, Peter is an avid outdoorsman. In the winter you will find him on the slopes; the rest of the year he enjoys floating and fishing on the rivers in the Rocky Mountains. He is also renovating a sailboat in Michigan, where he grew up.

"Life is short. Do what you love! We will manage all aspects of your design/build project and management of your home, so that you can spend your time doing what you enjoy most.”
